Barcelona’s Passeig de Gràcia – the smartest avenue on Earth?

Barcelona City is going to install several kinds of sensors from Sentilo partners in its emblematic Passeig de Gràcia. Sound sensors by Cesva, garbage-bin sensors by TST Sistemas (that even detect if bin covers stay open), traffic sensors by Sensefields and water quality sensors by Libellium will send data to the same platform, thanks to Sentilo’s common API. The project will demonstrate Sentilo’s capability to ensure that the disastrous silo paradigm for smart cities technology is avoided.

So Sentilo is going to contribute to Barcelona’s Passeig de Gràcia becoming one of the “smartest” avenues in the world. We’ll even be able to know the pH of the water of its ornamental fountains!

What are they using all of this cool technology for? What are people doing with this data?

    Sentilo Team says:

Barcelona is gathering all this data in order to improve city management and citizen’s quality of life.
For instance, thanks to data gathered from noise sensors installed, Barcelona city council can measure how changes made in road pavement or sidewalk width are changing noise level. Or see how changes in traffic lights programmes affects vehicle flow.
